Dravecky

Former MLB,

Inspiration & Motivation

Dave Dravecky’s story is one of finding hope, courage and perseverance in the midst of dark and overwhelming uncertainty. He is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants from 1982 to 1989. Known for his resilience and determination, Dravecky became an inspirational figure both on and off the field. In 1988, while with the Giants, he was diagnosed with cancer in his pitching arm. After undergoing surgery to remove a tumor, he made a remarkable comeback in 1989, returning to pitch just one year later. However, during his second game back, his arm broke in mid-pitch, ultimately leading to the amputation of his left arm to prevent the spread of cancer.

Despite his career being cut short, Dravecky's courage and faith have continued to inspire others. He has since become a motivational speaker, author, and advocate for cancer awareness. He shares his journey of overcoming adversity, finding strength through life’s challenges, learning how to navigate loss and suffering, and how to experience encouragement and hope at churches and conferences. His personal experiences have also taught him to evaluate life—challenging himself as well as others to press on towards our future goals.
