Former Harlem Globetrotter, Youth Advocate

A former Harlem Globetrotter, Melvin Adams, has dedicated his life to inspiring America’s youth. Since retiring from professional basketball in 2000, he has spoken to more than two million students at school assemblies, camps, clinics, and youth events.

Raised in the Houston ghetto, Melvin faced overwhelming challenges—losing his father at 13, financial struggles, and a seemingly hopeless environment. Sports became his way out. Through relentless hard work, he excelled at Eisenhower High School and went on to San Jose Christian College, where he became a two-time NCAA III All-American and the school’s all-time leader in scoring, assists, and steals.

After college, Melvin joined the Harlem Globetrotters, earning the title “Mr. Globetrotter” multiple times for his energy and spirit. When he retired in 2000, he turned his focus to sharing the hope of Christ with young people. As Melvin puts it, “Playing for the Globetrotters took me all over the world. Now I want to use my whole life to draw others to my Father.”
